Health Insurance Laws Are Changing, What Is Required? What Steps Do You Need to Take?

As the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is fully implemented in the year 2014 it’s important to work with a company that can help you find the best health insurance solutions for your individual needs, or the needs of your business.

Types of Health Insurance Policies.

Under the new insurance rules employer provided insurance and individual insurance options will be available.  Individual health insurance coverage can be provided by means of Insurance Exchanges.

Certain states have elected to allow the federal government to set up the health insurance exchanges.

The state of Ohio is one such state.  For more information you may click on Ohio Health Insurance Exchange to learn why Ohio elected to not set up the Ohio insurance exchange.

The exchanges will establish an Ohio Health Insurance Marketplace.

Beginning Oct. 1, 2013, individuals in Ohio (all 50 states) will be able to shop for health insurance and compare plans through the Marketplace. One of the changes with this new law is that insurance companies will no longer be able to deny coverage for those with pre-existing health conditions.

The pre-existing condition will no longer apply after January 1st 2014, however certain surcharges on coverage may be imposed such as a smokers surcharge.

Other changes under the new Health Care Law.

  • Removal of lifetime limits.
  • Covering preventative services with no deductible or co-pay.
  • Scrutinizing unreasonable premium increases.
  • Increasing support for community health centers and primary care clinicians.
